Hydrogen Ukraine has announced its involvement in EastGate H2V project, an initiative to foster the production, distribution, and consumption of renewable hydrogen.

The official meeting took place on 10 April in Košice, Slovakia, marking the beginning of this journey for the region’s green energy future.

The EastGate H2V project, selected under the Horizon Europe framework by the Clean Hydrogen Joint Undertaking and backed by a €9 million funding, brings together 22 partners from 7 European countries to create a comprehensive hydrogen ecosystem. The project aims to establish key elements of the hydrogen value chain, including the production of renewable hydrogen, distribution infrastructure, and its use across various sectors, particularly in mobility and industry.

Hydrogen Ukraine, along with the Ukrainian Hydrogen Council, is proud to be a part of this initiative, contributing to the decarbonisation efforts and supporting the reduction of CO2 emissions.

Through the H2U Zakarpattia Hydrogen Valley project, Hydrogen Ukraine is laying the groundwork for large scale hydrogen production in Western Ukraine, positioning the country as a vital player in Europe’s hydrogen economy. The Zakarpattia region, with its renewable energy resources and strategic location, is set to serve as a key source of clean hydrogen for both Ukraine and the EastGate H2V project.

Moreover, Hydrogen Ukraine is actively contributing to the Central European Hydrogen Corridor project, which focuses on establishing a hydrogen transport network connecting Ukraine with the wider EU. By facilitating hydrogen transportation through pipelines and other infrastructure, the corridor project plays a pivotal role in the integration of EastGate H2V with Ukraine’s growing hydrogen supply.

Key highlights of the EastGate H2V project include:

  • Hydrogen production and distribution infrastructure that will power buses, ships, and aircraft.
  • Cross-border collaboration with Ukraine to scale hydrogen production and establish pipeline interconnections.
  • Research and studies to replicate the regional hydrogen ecosystem in other Central and Eastern European regions.
  • A comprehensive communication and dissemination plan to raise public awareness and ensure visibility of hydrogen’s potential in local communities.
