The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will attend the signing ceremony of the agreement on strategic partnership in the field of green energy development and transmission between the governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary in Cotroceni Palace on Saturday. The Administration of the President of Romania disseminates information about this.

The agreement will be signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili, the Prime Minister of Romania, Nicolae Ciucă, and the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban.

According to the statement, the document is based on the interests of the four countries related to the consolidation of national and regional energy security and connectivity in the Black Sea basin, diversification of supply sources, capitalization of the potential of renewable energy production in the Caspian region and increasing the share of renewable energy. A quadrilateral intergovernmental agreement provides for the realization of a submarine cable project between Romania and Azerbaijan, via Georgia and the Black Sea, to transport electricity from renewable sources.

The press release also states that the submarine electricity transmission cable project across the Black Sea is part of the agreement in the field of energy between the European Commission and the Republic of Azerbaijan, and at the same time, a flagship project for Georgia as part of the EU's "Global Gateway" strategy.
