Arkansas governor to call for special legislative session after fiscal session

Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Monday said he accepted legislative leaders’ call for a special legislative session later this year to consider two issues he said require immediate attention: the regulation of pharmacy benefit managers and amending the state’s open container law.

Hoping to keep the ongoing fiscal session devoid of bills not involving the budget, the leaders of the House and Senate sent Hutchinson a letter on Friday requesting a special legislative session to deal with those two issues.

Hutchinson then held a news conference Monday to say he would issue a call for a special session once the fiscal session is complete.

Other issues may be considered for the call if signature-gatherers in the Legislature can show there is broad support for such measures, Hutchinson said.
